‘The Gospel According to St Mark’ is a dramatic reading of the entire Gospel as it was intended to be heard in the early years of the Christian church. It was probably written sometime in the sixties of the first century about thirty years after Jesus’ death. It is performed in the New Revised Standard Version and is suitable for any venue.
Many people read their bibles in short extracts or are familiar with the story of Jesus from weekly readings in church but it is rare to hear the whole story from start to finish. But like all who wrote before the invention of printing, Mark knew that most people who experienced his work would do so by hearing it.
The reading can be the focus for a scheme of study as is common in many churches or as part of the celebration of a particular festival.
